Devin had his senior picture location chosen long before his senior session actually happened. There was something about the appeal of Manitou Springs that caught the attention of Devin, and he couldn't have chosen a more perfect spot. It must have been the art and the fact that his advice to others is: "The greatest lesson i have learned is to take everything seriously with a grain of sugar. It is important to do things right and be focused, but why not have fun doing it." BOth of these things fit with Manitou Springs perfectly. Devin's personality is fun, carefree, and kind, all of which also match well with the small town of Manitou Springs. During the session, it was easy to capture a perfect smile from Devin because every time I prompted him to give the 'serious face', he broke out into laughter. This is what I instantly loved about Devin, throughout the whole session there were photos of those moments captured, the between the posing prompts a bit of unaltered laughter and joy.
While learning more about Devin, I loved hearing about his future plans. He is going to be studying Biochemistry or Bioengineering with the desire to work in a laboratory to pay off loans and begin to travel. Even through Devin has plans for after high school, he is wiser than his years. In reading through his senior questionnaire, he mentions the importance of several paths that make up who we are, not just one defined path. He states, "I believe that every person is not defined by one thing, but by many. I don't know exactly where life will take me from here, but i know it will be down many paths and not just one." I agree with his statement in that everyone takes several paths, and even if we plan, things will go in different directions, but is ok.
Devin has also been a part of this high school's theatre program, and enjoys art in general. I really enjoyed hearing him talk about his involvement in theatre and the opportunities that have come about because of it. Some of his favorite memories was going to New York City with his high school's theatre group, as well as performing in the production of "She Kills Monsters" in front of over 4000 people in the Belco theatre at the Colorado International Thespian Society convention. Such awesome accomplishments and things to be proud of. It is easy to tell that there will be many more adventures in Devin's future.
Devin has a love of people, cultures, and art. He is kind, funny, and bright. He calls his mom his biggest inspiration in his life. He mentioned her as a hard working, dedicated woman who has shown him that in life, the only way you can achieve your dreams is by doing everything you can and and them some. She has done a really good job of raising a son who is striving to follow his dreams and take each moment as they come. Wishing Devin the best in his senior year and many wonderful adventures in his future.
